Choosing the Right Starch for Your Application

The right starch depends on what you need it to do in your formulation. Viscosity, clarity, freeze-thaw stability, and clean label requirements all narrow the field. Here is how our two main product lines break down:

Clean Label Starches

Native (unmodified) starches for manufacturers who need simple, recognizable ingredients on their labels. Our clean label line includes potato, tapioca, pea, and corn starches. These are the right choice when your formulation requires thickening, binding, or texture without chemical modification. Ideal for better-for-you products, organic lines, and applications where consumers expect short ingredient lists.

Modified Starches

Modified starches are engineered for performance that native starches cannot match. They deliver greater tolerance to heat, shear, acid, and freeze-thaw cycling, which means more consistent results in demanding production environments. If your process involves retort, high-speed mixing, extended shelf life, or any application where batch-to-batch consistency is critical, modified starches are the answer. We also offer clean label modified starches that push the functional capability of natives beyond what they can achieve on their own, while keeping your ingredient list simple and consumer-friendly. Available in potato and tapioca variants.

Starch Types by Source

Potato Starch delivers the highest viscosity among common native starches. It produces a clear paste with neutral flavor, making it a strong fit for soups, sauces, gravies, and snack coatings. Available in native, waxy, and modified forms.

Tapioca Starch provides a clean flavor, smooth texture, and good freeze-thaw stability. Widely used in tortilla and tortilla chip manufacturing, bakery fillings, and extruded snack products. Available in native, waxy, modified, and organic forms.

Pea Starch is a plant-based alternative gaining traction in clean label and allergen-friendly formulations. It offers good gelling properties and works well in noodles, extruded snacks, and meat analogs.

Corn Starch is one of the most widely used starches in food manufacturing, offering reliable thickening and binding at a competitive price point.
