Product:   Dill Weed

All deliveries shall comply in every respect to the requirements of the FD&C Act as amended and regulations promulgated thereunder.  In addition, the product shall comply with the following specifications:

 

General Description:  Dill Weed is the dried leaves of the herb (Anethum graveolens L.) from which Dill Seed is derived.  The flavor of Dill Weed is lighter and more subtle than Dill Seed.

 

Chemical & Physical Specifications:

                  

                   Volatile Oil                                0.2 % Minimum (ml/100g)

                        Moisture                                 12.0 % Maximum

                        Total Ash                                10.0 % Maximum

                        Acid Insoluble Ash                   2.0 % Maximum    

The physical and chemical tests shall be performed according to the latest editions of AOAC or ASTA.

 

Storage:   Store in tightly sealed boxes at temperature not to exceed 75 degrees FH.  Avoid direct sunlight, heat or humid conditions.

                        E. Coli                                                Negative

                        Salmonella                             Negative

 

Organoleptic:

                      Appearance                           Minimal Stem and Chaff Content

                        Flavor & Aroma                     Fresh

                        Volatile Oil                             d-Carvone being the principal contributor to the spice’s flavor and aroma.

 

Shelf Life:  Under above conditions – 12 months from date of receipt.  The above specification is to be considered as a guideline only.   Bacteriological specifications:  For sterilized products only.
