PRODUCT:  Bay Leaves (Whole)

 

Description:             Shall be the whole, grayish green leaves of “Laurus Nobilis” L.  The leaves should be stiff, brittle, smooth and slightly shiny.  The underside of the leaf shall have a dull finish.  It will possess a delicate, aromatic odor and an aromatic, bitter taste.

 

All materials shall conform in every respect to all the provisions of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (and amendments thereto) as well as the requirements of state and local regulatory agencies.  All materials shall be in conformance with all applicable FDA, ASTA, and USDA standards in regards to both macroscopic and microscopic extraneous matter.

                                    Moisture*                                7.0

                                    Volatile Oil**                          1.0

*The requirements for these tests are expressed as percent “not more than”.

** The requirements for these tests are expressed as “not less than”.

 

Labeling:                  Each container shall show the item by name and code number, ingredients, manufacturer’s name and address, net weight, code date and batch number.

 

Storage and Shelf Life:     This product should be stored in a cool (below 65 degrees F), dry (below 70 degrees R.H.) area, in sealed containers to provide for a shelf-life of up to 12 months without appreciable loss of flavor and/or functionality.

 

Packaging:              State packaging on bid for optimal retention.  .75 – 1.25 ounces per sanitary sturdy container.  Induction sealing or equivalent required on all containers.  Must have shaker top lid and be easily removed and replaced.
